welcome, thunderbirds!
Our PTA is a dedicated group of parents, teachers, and administrators who work together to provide resources and programs to all families in our school community.
The PTA supports the quality of education at Trailwood Elementary with strategic investments in curriculum materials, enrichment and instructional programs, and general support of our community that directly enhance the school's mission of excellence for all Trailwood students.
Welcome to Trailwood PTA!

special pta Legislative meeting
Save the Date for a special PTA meeting on January 9th at 7:00 pm in the Commons. We'll hear about state issues that affect public education from three elected officials who serve in Topeka, as well as our State Board of Education chair!
Learn about how our schools are funded and what education policies may be up next at the state level. Bring your questions or submit them here in advance!
thunderbird bowl-o-rama
Our 2nd Annual Trailwood Thunderbird Bowl-O-Rama was a huge success! We had a great time at Ward Parkway Lanes where we hung out with old and new friends, enjoyed lots of bowling fun, and raised funds for a new gaga ball pit!
Thank you to all who contributed to this cause by purchasing tickets, being an event sponsor, making donations and/or entering our raffle! We had a fabulous evening and are looking forward to a new gaga ball pit for our students coming soon!
dining partners
Dining partner events are amazing ways to support Trailwood while also enjoying some delicious food and supporting our community partners.
Do you know of a business that would be interested in learning more about the dining partners program? Please reach out to Lori Tritsch, if so!
And, be sure to check out the information below for details on other great ways to give back!
cafeteria volunteers needed
Whether you can help a little or a lot, we’d love to have you as a cafeteria volunteer this school year! Your time commitment is only one hour, but it makes a huge difference for our students and staff. Responsibilities include opening drinks and food packages and assisting our lunchroom aides.
Together, we can create a positive mealtime experience for all! See the sign up below!
MEMBERSHIP and yearbook sales happening now
You can support the amazing work of our PTA by purchasing a membership! Becoming a member does not obligate you to attend meetings or volunteer (although, we’d love to have you!). Your support allows us to provide our students, staff and families with a variety of fun and educational opportunities here at Trailwood!
You can also purchase your child’s yearbook and pay their yearly activity fee here. Yearbooks are a fantastic way for kids to reminisce on all the fun they had at Trailwood Elementary and will be delivered in May.

Chair a committee
We still have a few committees in need of chairs for the 2024-2025 school year. Please reach out to Lori Tritsch if you have additional questions or are interested in being a volunteer.

Volunteer as a wingman
Calling all Trailwood dads and father figures!
This fall, please consider taking a half-day or full-day out of your busy schedules and spending some time in your child's classroom as a Wingman! This is a great opportunity to interact with the kids and see what they do every day! Your schedule will vary depending on the needs of the day, but you can plan on spending most of your day with your kiddo(s) in the classroom, on the playground or at specials.
Volunteers can choose the dates and times (half-days or full-days) and can float between classrooms (if more than one child is attending Trailwood). Be on the lookout for a SignUp Genius coming soon!
Please contact Leif Peterson with any questions.
become an mvp and make a difference
We hope you'll consider becoming an MVP this year! This designation is given to adult volunteers in SMSD who would like the opportunity to work with/supervise kids on their own. These relationships are positively powerful for the child (and the adult), and we can always use people to serve in this role!
Trailwood will be hosting two MVP training opportunities in September. Please join us on 9/9 from 6:00 - 7:00 pm or on 9/17 from 8:30 - 9:30 am. Reservations are not required.
For more information on the MVP program and training dates, please use the link below. Please contact social worker Brenna Sandefur-Farrar if you have any additional questions.
2024 - 2025 PTA MEETINGs
We hope you'll join us for our next PTA meeting of the year on Tuesday, January 7th, at 7:00 pm in the Commons. Hear from our elected officials about how our schools are funded and what education policies may be up next at the state level.
Please come with your questions about everything Trailwood. Our monthly meetings are great opportunities to get to know each other and find out more about our fabulous community! Everyone is invited to attend! Children are always welcome!
We hope to see you there!
