Hello, Trailwood Community!

We have made it. The final month of the 2020-2021 school year! To say it has been a unique year, is the understatement of the year. As we begin to close this chapter, I want to take the time to thank all of the parents, teachers and volunteers for a truly amazing year. This community is special and reflecting back on every effort that was made in order to have the year that we did, fills my heart with immense gratitude.

Thank you to the Auction Committee for your creativity and determination. It was not an easy feat to facilitate a typically very large in person event, virtually. To all of the donors, donation collectors and those that participated in the evening, thank you! Because of your generosity, PTA can continue to provide enriching experiences and support for students and staff.

To committee chair people, thank you for your leadership and willingness to participate, even with restrictions. From showering our TW staff with well deserved appreciation treats, to Wingmen building beautiful picnic tables, to Room Parents organizing parties without being in the building, to all that dedicated precious time towards this community, you have made a tremendous impact.

Thank you for allowing me to be a part of this PTA. It has been a privilege.

I hope that you all have a great summer and enjoy your families!

2021 Golf Tournament

The deadline to register for the Trailwood Golf Tournament is this Sunday, May 2nd! The scramble will take place on May 6th at 9:00 am at Deer Creek Golf Club, and we'd love to have you join us! The tournament is open to everyone, so please feel free to invite your friends, family members and co-workers. Proceeds from the event will benefit a traverse rock climbing wall in the gym!

Not a golfer, but still want to support the rock climbing wall? We still have a variety of sponsorships available and would love to showcase your family or business on the course. Or, consider purchasing a raffle ticket to win a prize package containing Royals tickets, a pair of sterling silver earrings from Tom Tivol, gift cards to area salons and more! This package is valued over $400!

Social Worker Update

A parent told me recently that she had no idea about some of the services offered through the school district to help families, so I wanted to share this info with families this week:

One program that our school district offers to assist families who may be struggling with housing needs is called the McKinney-Vento program. This program can provide services to a student or family that:

- Is lacking a regular, fixed, and adequate nighttime residence (substandard housing)

- Is sharing housing due to economic struggles

- Is living in a shelter, hotel, or motel

- Is living in a public place not designed for sleeping (cars, parks)

- Is an unaccompanied youth: This includes all youth who are not in the physical custody of a parent or court appointed guardian

- Is a child or youth abandoned in a hospital

- Is a migrant child who qualifies under any of the above

- If you think you may be eligible, you can contact the McKinney-Vento liaison, David Aramovich, at 913-993-2865. Additionally, through hard work that David Aramovich and others have done to connect with community resources and agencies, you can connect through school social work services to many resources that your family may need. If your family needs help to find a community resource to meet your needs, please contact me to discuss resources and options for support.

The week of May 3rd-7th is National Teacher Appreciation week. Our amazing Trailwood staff is always deserving of our recognition, but this year they are especially deserving. The Teacher Appreciation committee has something planned for each day of the week to show our staff our gratitude, however, we would like to encourage each family and/or student to show their teacher some love during that week. A hand-written card, picture, note, or even an email would mean so much to each of them. If you would like to add something special for your teacher with the note, then that would be great too. We know it is a busy time of year, but would really love to show our teachers how much they mean to us and how grateful we are for their dedication and commitment to our students.

Bicyclists from the across the United States will join together to celebrate National Bike to School Day. Bike to School events work to create safer routes for bicycling and walking, and emphasize the importance of a range of issues such as increasing physical activity among children, cyclist and pedestrian safety, traffic congestion, concern for the environment and building connections between families, schools and the broader community.

Hello Trailwood parents,

The end of the year is quickly approaching, and with that comes our annual Talent Show! This year, Trailwood's Talent Show will be a compilation of student (and staff) video submissions. We invite all interested students to be part of the fun. Students may perform any talent that is school appropriate - song, dance, spoken word, instruments, martial arts, sports skills... there are too many talents to name!
