Hello Trailwood families! This is a big month for our PTA. First and foremost, please note that the February 26th auction has now been changed to a virtual format. The committee has worked very hard and thought so creatively to make this event fun and memorable. Tickets go on sale February 7th. Stay tuned for all of the exciting details. 

Secondly, we are honored to have special guests, Jessica Hembree, Mary Sinclair, and Heather Ousley at the next general PTA meeting. Please submit questions for our guests to Emily Meissen-Sebelius.

February PTA Meeting and Legislative Update

Trailwood, Diemer and Brookwood PTAs will host South area rep. Jessica Hembree, and newly re-elected SMSD board president Heather Ousley and East area representative Mary Sinclair, 7:00pm at Trailwood.


Bring your questions to this panel-style meeting, where we will hear updates and engage in a conversation with our Board of Ed members.  RSVP and submit your questions in advance here! 


Want a breakdown of what's happening in Topeka related to public education?

Erin Woods from SM Area Council PTA will also share state legislative updates related to public education at the Feb. 15th meeting.  We are already seeing some concerning bills introduced that threaten to weaken and pull funding away from public education. As legislative coordinator for SMAC PTA, Erin provides updates like this one regularly on legislative issues. Check our TW PTA facebook page for up-to-date legislative action items and join us on Feb. 15th to learn more!

Spread The Love!

Let's show our amazing Trailwood staff how much we appreciate all of the hard work, dedication, and care they put into their students. Print out or pick up the attached heart cut outs, write a message of gratitude/encouragement, and drop it off in the office. Messages can be to a specific staff member or to all in general. These hearts will then be displayed throughout the school.  Adults and kids are encouraged to participate. What a wonderful opportunity to lift some spirits!

Spirit Wear
Calling all creative grown ups!!! Please submit a design of your own creation in a 1 or 2 color format for this year's Sneak Peak Spirit Wear Contest/Sale. All entries are due by no later than 3/28 (which gives you all of Spring Break to throw something together!) All entries will be voted on by all the staff/faculty and school body/families and could be included in our parent-designed Spirit Wear for order! Please reach out with any questions.

Pre-K and Kindergarten Enrollment

We are excited to share the enrollment kickoff date for Pre-K and Kindergarten for 2022-2023 will be February 4, 2022. Online enrollment will open at 8 a.m.

How to Enroll:

Enrollment is online. Click here for enrollment links which will go live on Feb. 4th at 8 a.m. This online enrollment allows families to complete the enrollment application for Pre-Kindergarten or Kindergarten. It also reserves a spot for Pre-Kindergarten families. The application must be completed on a desktop or laptop computer or a tablet (not a mobile phone). If you do not have access to one of these devices, please make an appointment to enroll in person. For Kindergarten, please contact the Trailwood secretary, Shereen North, at 993-5600. For Pre-K, please contact the Early Childhood department at 993-6441.

Kindergarten

A child must be 5-years-old on or before Aug. 31 to enroll in Kindergarten, by state law. SMSD offers free, full-day Kindergarten for every student. Kindergarten Kickoff events will be held in every SMSD elementary school from April 11 to April 22.

Pre-Kindergarten

To be able to enroll for Pre-Kindergarten, children must be 4-years-old on or before Aug. 31 (but not Kindergarten eligible). Pre- Kindergarten is a half-day program in Shawnee Mission. Wraparound care options are through Johnson County Park and Recreation. For more information regarding site locations and programming:

2022 Trailwood Elementary Auction
Be an auction sponsor! We are currently looking for sponsors to help make this event a big success! As a sponsor, your business will receive prominent exposure among Trailwood families, staff, friends and neighbors. Make a donation to the live or silent auction! One of the major contributions parents, grandparents and our community make to the auction is through the donation of items that we will be auctioning off during the live and silent auction. Grownups!! We still need your photos! Please share any and all in-school/personal/extra-curricular photos with the yearbook committee via link: https://plicbooks.com/go/DR76DM. Please make sure to title the photos either before or after you load them to make it easier to categorize on the back end.
Yearbook committee needs help! Please let us know if you are available to help proof, take photos, or even help with creating class pages in April! Lets make this yearbook a memorable one or all the staff, faculty, parents and especially the kiddos alike!

It’s not too late to purchase a PTA membership, yearbook, or activity fee! Becoming a member doesn’t obligate you to attend meetings or volunteer; you can be as involved as you’d like!  Memberships range from $10 - $20 and help us to provide support to the students, families, teachers and staff of Trailwood Elementary.
